Explosive welding of titanium steel clad composite plate

In order to obtain metal and alloy clad plate with high strength and different physical-chemical properties, explosive welding has been used. Then, when heated for many times at high temperature and for a long time, the bonding strength of the composite plate with chemical interaction between components will be reduced due to the formation of brittle inter metallic phase. In order to avoid this, one or more metal materials with "diffusion barrier" - inter layer can be used between different metals in explosive welding. When heated at high temperature, this kind of mesophase does not form an unwanted inter metallic phase with any of the components, thus improving the high temperature service performance of the composite plate. For example, when the copper and zirconium inter layer is introduced between titanium and steel, the maximum allowable heating temperature can reach 1000 ℃ when compared with the safe heating temperature of 600℃ titanium steel clad plate.

With the large-scale plant equipment, more and more explosive welding titanium steel clad plates with wider, longer and thinner requirements are required in smoke exhaust and drainage equipment. Therefore, a wide and long size composite plate can be produced by hot rolling of explosively welded slab. Among them, the thickness of titanium layer is 0.5-1.5 mm, the thickness of steel layer is 6.0-15.0 mm, and the area can reach 3500 mm*6500 mm.

The properties of explosive welding titanium steel hot-rolled clad plates were studied by Clad. It was determined that its shear strength was much higher than the minimum value of 140 MPa. The bending and torsion tests showed that the material had sufficient plasticity. The corrosion resistance of the samples was studied by intruding into HNO3 and CH3COOH. The corrosion rates were 0.1mm/a and 0.003mm/a respectively. According to the cold and hot forming properties evaluated by the stamping results of the pelvic parts with a diameter of 1350 mm, it is pointed out that satisfactory results can be obtained at the stamping temperature higher than 680 C.

Explosive welding titanium steel clad plates produced by Clad are widely used in chemical industry and petroleum industry. Transition joints obtained from explosive titanium-steel clad plates are widely used in cryogenic technology, nuclear devices and cosmic devices.
