TA2 1060 5083 structural transition joint for marine

As one of the highest quality engineering materials, TA2 has the characteristics of light weight, high specific strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent biocompatibility, and is widely used in aerospace, marine, chemical, biomedical and other fields. 5083 (aluminum-magnesium alloy) has high strength, good plasticity, and can maintain good mechanical properties at low temperatures. It is also the main lightweight structural material. The explosive welding of TA2 and 5083 can combine the advantages of the two materials. Great research ficance and engineering application value. However, the physical and chemical properties of titanium and aluminum are very different. The melting point of titanium is as high as 1668 °C. At this temperature, alloy elements such as magnesium and zinc in the aluminum-magnesium alloy are easily evaporated and burned at the high temperature generated by the collision, resulting in interface defects. Secondly, both titanium and aluminum are metals with a strong passivation tendency, and they are prone to produce various brittle intermetallic compounds such as TiAl2, TiAl3, Ti3Al, TiAl, Ti2Al5, and oxide defects of TiO2 and Al2O3 [2-5]. There is an increase in the tendency of the material to brittle failure and a decrease in the strength of the composite material. In addition, the linear expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity of TA2 and 5083 are too different, and the severe plastic deformation caused by explosive welding is likely to generate a large amount of residual stress at the bonding interface, which affects the use of materials. Another study shows that the welding difficulty of aluminum alloys increases with its hardness [6], which makes the explosion welding window of 5083 narrower.

The explosive compounding of TA2/1060/5083 with a compound plate thickness of 1.5 mm can be successfully achieved under the explosive thickness of 10~15 mm. When the thickness of the explosive is 10 mm, the TA2/1060 interface and the 1060/5083 interface are both straight and combined; when the explosive thickness is 15 mm, the TA2/1060 interface is straight and microwave-like, and the 1060/5083 interface is wave-like. Combination; non-equilibrium solidification phenomenon occurred at the interface of the two drug thicknesses, forming a titanium-aluminum solid solution, and no intermetallic compounds were detected at the interface.
