The process of tightly combining the cathode carbon block and the cathode steel rod into a whole. The cathode carbon block is an important part of the aluminum electrolytic cell. It is directly used as the cathode lining and conductive material. It is connected with the cathode bus bar through the cathode steel rod to form the cathode circuit of the aluminum electrolytic cell. The assembly process of the cathode carbon block and the cathode steel rod , The contact resistance between them should be reduced as much as possible.
There are generally three methods for assembling the cathode carbon block and the cathode steel rod. (1) Cast iron casting method. Cast the gaps between them with molten phosphorous pig iron, and condense them to make them integrated. (2) The carbon paste tamping method uses a cathode paste called steel rod paste to fill the gaps on both sides of the steel rod, and tamping and compacting it with a pneumatic tool. (3) Bonding method. Use carbon glue or adhesive to bond the cathode carbon block and the steel rod together. This kind of adhesive is mostly added with graphite or metal powder (aluminum or iron) to reduce its contact resistance. Cast iron casting method and paste tamping method are commonly used in China.
