Advantages of aluminium over copper
1. Cheap price: the price of copper pole is 3.5 times that of aluminum pole, and the proportion of copper is 3.3 times that of aluminum. Therefore, aluminum core cable is much cheaper than copper core cable, which is suitable for low-cost projects or temporary power consumption.
2. The cable is very light: the weight of aluminum is 40% of that of copper, and the construction and transportation cost is low.
3. Oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance: aluminum reacts with oxygen in the air quickly to form an oxide film, which can prevent further oxidation. Therefore, aluminum conductor is the necessary material for high voltage, large section and long-span overhead power transmission.
Although aluminum core cables and are cheap, copper cables have outstanding advantages in cable power supply, especially in the field of underground cable power supply. The underground use of copper core cable for power supply has the characteristics of low accident rate, corrosion resistance, high reliability and convenient construction and maintenance. This is also the reason why copper cable is mainly used in underground cable power supply in China.
As a conductor material, aluminum will gradually fade out in various fields of medium and low voltage power distribution, and copper conductor will be gradually replaced by conductor aluminum alloy in medium and low voltage power distribution. Due to the good electrical conductivity and excellent mechanical properties of aluminum alloy conductor, it improves the disadvantages of unreliable connection, poor mechanical strength and easy creep of aluminum conductor. It is better than copper conductor in mechanical properties. The electrical performance has the same ability as copper conductor by increasing the cross-sectional area, and will be widely used in medium and low voltage distribution systems. The promotion and application of aluminum alloy conductor in the domestic market will save a lot of copper resources, reduce the country's dependence on foreign copper resources, save a lot of foreign exchange, save users economically, and enable installers to install more easily and conveniently. Many advantages give us reason to believe that the application of aluminum alloy conductor in medium and low voltage power cables will be deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. It will be a trend to replace copper with aluminum alloy. At the same time, it will cause a change in the cable industry.
