2198 aluminum-lithium alloy block

2198 aluminum-lithium alloy block is an aerospace alloy developed by the former Aluminum Corporation of Canada. It was finalized in 2005 and registered with the Aluminum Association of America (AA). Its registration score (mass%): 0.08Si, 0.10Fe, 2.9~ 3.5Cu, 0.50Mn, 0.25~0.8Mg, 0.05Cr, 0.35Zn, 0.10Ti, 0.10~0.50Ag, 0.8~1.1Li, 0.04~0.18Zr, other impurities 0.05, total 0.15, and the rest is Al. The performance of 2198 aluminum-lithium alloy block and conventional 2××× series aerospace alloy indicators have the following advantages: 40% higher corrosion resistance, 22% higher fatigue strength, 44% higher tensile strength, 47% higher fracture strength, and density 3% lower, 3% higher rigidity, greatly improved da/dn performance, slightly improved friction stir welding performance, and processing performance equivalent to 2024 and 7075 alloys.

The semi-finished products processed with 2198 aluminum-lithium alloy block include thin plates, thick plates, profiles and forgings, etc. The United States replaces 2219-T8 alloy plates with plates processed by2198 aluminum-lithium alloy block with a thickness of 3.6~6.1mm to manufacture the first and second Falcon9 rockets. Grade integral fuel tank barrels and round end caps have achieved the expected results.
